Get In TouchOur Dog Training Services not only teaches you how to lead your dog correctly but also enables you to understand your dogs psychology and mental state so that you can fix unwanted behaviours.
In many cases it is entirely possible for issues to be fixed in one or two training sessions, with owners going home seeing huge reductions in unwanted behaviours. When a dog is fixed/balanced by your dog trainer you can see with your own eyes the transformation. However, it is vital that owners understand- 'Handling a dog correctly is a skill', and needs to be consistent in their daily life. It is your dog trainers job to teach you the right techniques to maintain balance because maintenance and consistency by the owner is essential. If you continue to do your best to apply what you have learnt you should see your dog consistently behaving in a balanced way.
Like with any new skill practice makes for big improvements. Therefore, if owners need extra help with improving their handling ability we provide 'Top Up Sessions'. Also available are 'Structured Group Sessions' for those who want to improve and practice their handling skills around other dogs in a safe way. These are only available for those who have had the 1-2-1 training sessions.
NeMo® Dog Training is a world renowned training system! Jemma, the founder of Walkies With Perks has been Mentored and Accredited in the NeMo® Training System and undergone extensive training to meet the highest levels of training ethics coupled with a genuine love for dogs.
Mother nature knows best! NeMo® dog training imitates dog to dog interactions by creating leadership and correcting any imbalances through Negative Motivation (reinforcement) and Positive Physical Praise at the right time, combined with the correct exercise which creates a happy, neutral, submissive mental state; the happiest, most stable mental state for a dog to be in with its human owner. It brings the dog into 'Pack Drive', into a follower state of mind, making the dog feel safe, growing their self-confidence and self-control whilst establishing true engagement with trust and respect between dog and handler. Please note, using correct negative motivation/reinforcement does NOT mean bullying the dog into a supressed state. Its essential to get proper training before attempting any of the mentioned methods.
There is a lot of conflicting information about dogs and dog behaviour around the world and online. Walkies With Perks understands the headache this can be for dog owners and wants to reassure you that their life long passion of dogs has caused them to explore, study and practice the many avenues, particularly over the last ten years in order to find the greatest way to improve not only the behaviour of dogs but also the relationships people have with their dogs to make both dogs and owners happy.
Some people believe dogs are no longer a pack animal. Walkies With Perks strongly disagrees with this. Along with many other dog trainers and dog specialists all around the world we wholeheartedly believe all dogs; wild, stray or domesticated, are genetically pack animals with the need of a hierarchy system built in their DNA. YES, humans have domesticated dogs over hundreds, maybe thousands of years but this does NOT mean we have created a new specie. They are still dogs! Dogs have simply become domesticated. And humans become part of the pack therefore, it's essential we learn how to 'lead' and 'understand' our dogs psychology and behaviour correctly or they can become confused, stressed, lacking in self confidence and/or self control!
Whether it's a mother dog raising her own pups or its a pack of adult dogs with adolescence dogs, they gain balance, trust and respect by the mother dog or the alpha dog negatively marking any unwanted behaviours which is causing imbalance. They do this by applying some kind of pressure, often using their teeth (without harming and without bullying). The mother or alpha holds pressure until the puppy or dog displaying unacceptable behaviours goes to neutral and submits. This makes the one displaying the unacceptable behaviour respect the one correcting them. It prevents chaos and instability and achieves boundaries and respect throughout the pack. They daily build trust and confidence when they walk in migration together.
The majority of dogs and their owners sadly do not have this type of relationship. When pups go to their human homes at approximately 8 weeks old this natural form of communication and training usually stops, and within weeks or months many dogs become uncontrollable, imbalances are intensified, with dogs taking over households with their unwanted and problematic behaviours, even dangerous behaviours! The structure of the pack order is lost!
As a result many dogs are disengaged from their owners and only show 'a look' of obedience if bribed with food, balls or other treats. NeMo® training doesn't use a dogs food drive or prey drive to achieve obedience, it uses 'Pack Drive' to create true obedience were the dog respects and wants to please the owner as its leader truly fulfilling that old expression-
"A Dog is a Man's Best Friend"
Modern Reward only based training does not achieve this because when a dog operates in the other drives such as food drive or prey drive, it is learning to only please itself for the reward, so the dog is not neutral. This type of training can mask or divert the dog's character flaws or imbalances, especially if the dogs 'drive' is strong therefore certain behavioural issues cannot be fixed if 'solely' using a dogs drive. It prevents getting to the root of the behavioural problem. For example, if a dog is nervous or unsure, food drive will hide that and give the impression the dog is more confident than it truly is. Reward only based training can initially appear to fix issues but with many dogs, new or old issues will often return in time!
Using food drive which can mask character is the opposite to NeMo® training which corrects imbalances and builds character!

Ultimately, any issues or unwanted behaviours can be fixed by the NeMo System! Common issues we deal with are any type of reactivity, lead pulling, dogs jumping up, biting, running over to stranger dogs uninvited, dogs being nervous, separation anxiety etc. Upon request we also teach obedience commands such as sit, down, stay.
NeMo training focuses on how to guide the dog into the correct, most happy and stable mental state (into pack drive) as its foundation for further growth.
NeMo stands for Negative Motivation. The NeMo system trains dogs in a 'balanced' way. It incorporates negative and positive reinforcement, imitating how dogs interact with each other. We do this by using the leash to communicate in a way the dog understands which puts them into pack drive, into a follower state of mind. NeMo doesn't use food drive to achieve obedience.
No we don't! Quite simply we don't agree with it. Positive only training masks and/or diverts from any deeper issues therefore not achieving long term results. It doesn't get to the root of psychological imbalance which would have been corrected and shaped in a pack of balanced dogs and therefore unwanted behaviours either return or new issues start in time.
With the NeMo system we train dogs in a 'balanced' way which incorporates negative and positive reinforcement, imitating how dogs interact with each other. We do this by using the leash to communicate in a way the dog understands. We use positive physical and verbal praise at the right time.
